Lighting the Way for the Children

In a new blog, Gisele debates how the energy poverty affects the education of many children in the Kathambe village, in Kenya. Several children feel discouraged to complete their school work by its difficulty of doing it in the dark, causing them to drop out and causing them to turn to crime as a source of income for their families.

Gisele highlights that “the micro-hydro system that creates electricity in the village of Kathambe has afforded many children of the region the opportunity to finish school and go onto university”, showing the importance of these systems in the instruction of individuals in the community. The system provides not only education, but also gives them the opportunity to have choices of how they can earn a living.
